Grand Challenges in Computer Science
by Nickolas Falkner - Sunday, April 29, 2012, 03:50 PM

Hi,

We're launching a new degree program in second semester, the Bachelor of Computer Science (Advanced), and we'll also be running the first of its associated courses - COMP SCI 1104 Grand Challenges in Computer Science, a first-year course

This course examines the grand challenges in Computer Science, including Advanced Computational Methods, Data Visualisation, High Performance Computing and lots more!

Assessment will feature project components in data analysis and visualisation, tutorials and exams but you'll have a lot of opportunity to display your skills in a rewarding and challenging environment.

Yes, that means it's challenging and advanced, which means that entry restrictions apply, including:

ATAR 95+ or higher (in the last two years) OR
GPA 6 or higher (Distinction average in all courses)

We're running an Information Session on Thursday at 2pm, Room 5.57 Ingkarni Wardli.

Contact me if you’re planning to attend (by Tuesday night) or for more information - nickolas.falkner@adelaide.edu.au

Regards,
Nick.

by Cheryl Pope - Friday, April 27, 2012, 10:29 AM
In response to input from the student staff consultative committee, we are going to trial a booking option for learning centre tutoring.

At http://forums.cs.adelaide.edu.au/course/view.php?id=92 you will find weekly booking links.

Where there is a 'T' showing is a time that the CSLC tutors *could* be available for consultation.

Student input on recognising outstanding staff contributions to student learning
by Cheryl Pope - Friday, April 27, 2012, 09:34 AM

As a school we'd like to recognise staff that have made significant contributions to student learning and we'd like student input on the criteria that are important to you. Think about the staff members that have made a difference to your study here and what is it about them and what they have done that have made a difference.

e-mail me cheryl@cs.adelaide.edu.au with any input into what you would like to see go into the choice. All input would be greatly appreciated.

Deadline for comment is this coming Monday 30 Apr.

Thanks,
Cheryl
